Favorite holiday

Well, I think that my favorite holiday is september 16th., Mexico's Independence Day. Maybe you'll be asking: "What's so special about that day?", and I'll politely answer you that the whole month of september is considered our national month, kids in schools make tiny little mexican flags using paper and wood sticks, in many corners and vehicle passages you can find people selling flags of different sizes, some for use in cars and some to put up on your house. It's always nice to see so many cars with little flags in the radio antennas, you can feel your heart pumping with patriotic pride and fervor on those sightings.
The night of september 16th. it's also very fun 'cause in every city and town of the whole country we practice the ceremony of "El Grito" to rembember that in that same day but in the year of 1810, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla started the independence war calling everybody to fight using the sound of a bell in the town of Dolores. That same night we can enjoy the fireworks while eating some traditional mexican dishes like tamales, pozole or tostadas.
It really is one special ocassion in wich everyone can feel the love for this country, with it's problems and deficiencies, but in the end, it's still our land and we should care and fight for it.

I can smell the freakness in the air...

This past weekend took place another of those weird but strangely awesome events called "conves" or "conventions" here in Tampico, there you could see a lot of costumed people (it's called "cosplay"), buy some comics, mangas, anime dvd's, posters, pins, t-shirts and almost anything that can be created using the imagery from those fantasy worlds.
Cosplay is a big attention drawer, a lot of people go to conventions just to take pictures of the different boys and girls (mostly girls) using costumes to resemble their favorite characters from anime, videogames and comics... although it's kind of difficult to find someone costumed as a character from a comic book because of the obvious anatomical differences between an average human and those from comic books, you know, the big muscles, angular jaws and stuff like that make it very difficult to fill the shoes of certain characters.
Another of the main atractions for every convention is the presentation of different voice actors that lend their voices for the latin versions of north american movies, TV series or japanese anime. This time we had the joy of meeting the actor who does the dubbing work for Dr. Gregory House in the eponymous series, his name is Salvador Delgado and his work as the grumpy doctor is nothing short of excellent."Conves" are always fun and distracting, even if the crowds don't let you walk through the corridors at ease, the prices are really inflated and the acoustic of our convention center isn't the best, it's still a nice way to keep our inner child amused and happy.
